WHAT IS ADAPT?

The Art du Déplacement And Parkour Teaching (ADAPT) Certification is the only internationally recognized teaching certification for parkour/freerunning/art du déplacement that has been endorsed by the original French founders of the discipline (the Yamakasi and early traceurs from Evry/Lisses- the birthplace of parkour). It provides the industry benchmark for parkour instruction, and has been formulated over several years by many of the founding figures and most experienced instructors of parkour. Today, the ADAPT instructor network has spread across the globe and ADAPT-certified instructors enjoy a number of benefits, including an international network of like-minded peers, improved access to insurance coverage, and support from larger parkour organizations when working with local government officials and administrators.

COURSE DETAILS:

The Level 1 (Assistant Instructor) certification course takes place over 3 days from 9am – 5pm each day. Candidates will participate in a variety of individual and group exercises, class discussions, demonstrations, and coaching situations covering:

- The spirit of parkour in practice

The course culminates with a written exam and practical assessment by the course tutor(s). Upon submission of the Supervised Hours log sheet with the required number of signatures, candidates will receive their ADAPT Level 1 certificate via mail.

Candidates will be required to show a basic level of proficiency in a variety of parkour techniques and most candidates find that 1-2+ years of dedicated parkour training is helpful for the successful completion of the certification.

FAQ:

- How do I know if I'm ready to take ADAPT?
ADAPT Level 1 is the entry level course for parkour instructors. Participants should have a basic understanding and mastery of the basic parkour techniques and should be comfortable training within a group in a variety of settings and environments. Prior teaching experience is useful, although not required.

- What do I need to do to pass ADAPT?
In order to receive the ADAPT Level 1 certification; participants must complete the 3-day course, which involves practical assessments as well as a written assessment. Candidates can then begin logging the required minimum of 10 supervised coaching session with an ADAPT Level 2 or 3 instructor, including a final “assessed live coaching session" at the end of this period. If successful, the candidate will then receive the ADAPT Level One Certification.

Note: The supervised coaching sessions with a Level 2 or Level 3 instructor must be completed within 12 months from the end of the course.

- How do the supervised coaching sessions and "assessed live coaching sessions" work?
The supervised coaching hours are designed to make sure that the candidate is able to instruct at a level consistent with the ADAPT Level 1 standard. The sessions must be completed with a certified ADAPT Level 2 or Level 3 instructor, who can be found in a number of cities around the country. Many participants are able to complete most of their supervised hours at workshops and/or classes that usually take place directly after the course in the host city.
